Main Bathrooms

Designing the main bathroom in your home can often be more challenging than people initially imagine. Should you simply replicate the existing design or the original plans? Have you considered how the bathroom is actually used, and whether your family’s needs or ages have changed over time? There are many important factors to think about. Often, the architect who originally designed your bathroom created it in a fairly generic way to suit family habits and available materials of that era, which might have evolved quite significantly since then. Is your bathroom large or small? Can it be extended, and if so, should it be? What do you want from the space now? Is it a place for relaxing in the bath over the weekend, a practical second shower, a dedicated makeup area, or a spacious bathroom adapted for family members who may be becoming less mobile? Perhaps the layout is perfect, but the style feels dated or doesn’t quite match the rest of your home. There are many reasons why people choose to renovate their main bathroom, and a wide variety of outcomes are possible. Ultimately, the only real limits are your imagination and budget. At Riva Tiles & Bathrooms, we’re here to help. Our team includes interior designers and interior architects with expert knowledge, and we offer a 3D design service that allows you to visualise the finished space before any work begins. This helps you make key decisions confidently and ensures the project runs smoothly from start to finish. One of the most common questions we receive is always about the bath: does it stay or go? Can we fit both a shower and a bath in the space? Is there a better type of bath suited for showering? Or perhaps one that is more suitable for those who are less mobile? And what about fitting in a freestanding bath, the showpiece of many bathrooms? Naturally, we have answers regarding sizes and options for all kinds of preferences, but some decisions depend largely on your family’s usage habits and lifestyle choices. For instance, if your bath is used fewer than a handful of times a year, is it really necessary to keep it? Would you use it more if it was bigger and more comfortable? Or might it be time to replace the bath with a shower, transforming your bathroom into a more functional space for everyday use? If you or someone in your family is becoming less mobile, you might be concerned about maintaining a stylish look while needing safer, more accessible solutions. We provide many anti-slip wetroom designs, featuring high-end decorative grab rails and shower seats that combine both functionality and beauty. Feel free to call in or email us to arrange an appointment. We’re here to help you make the best choice for your bathroom.

ENSUITE

Most ensuite bathrooms tend to be compact in size, requiring careful attention to detail to ensure that the space functions well once all the elements are chosen and installed. At Riva, we offer a wide variety of options for smaller vanities and toilets to maximize both style and functionality. Whenever possible, due to space constraints and visual appeal, we recommend wall-hung toilets and vanities. This choice not only makes cleaning easier but also creates the illusion of more space by keeping elements off the floor, enhancing the room’s openness. Another design tip we often use involves tile size: contrary to popular belief, larger tiles work better in small bathrooms. Small tiles tend to create many grout lines which can draw the eye and make the space feel cramped and boxy. Larger tiles, with minimal and well-blended grout joints, help the room appear much more spacious. Additionally, lighting and extractor fans are key considerations in ensuite design, especially in tighter spaces. There are modern options for more powerful and quieter extractor fans designed to fit in walls or ceilings, which perform better and cause less noise than older standard models. Moreover, high-quality lighting can significantly enlarge the feel of the room, with smart app-controlled spotlights and strip lighting available to customize and refocus the light according to your needs in the limited space.

Cloakroom Wc

This space is normally very small, often tucked under the stairs or located off the hallway. The downstairs toilet is usually a space that people give little thought to, and as a result, it can sometimes be very basic in terms of its fittings and the tiling used. One thing I always make a point of mentioning to customers is that this is the toilet most visitors to your home will see, so it’s worth considering its appearance. Given its relatively small size, it can be quite budget-friendly to create a space that looks beautiful and presentable. In recent years, with newer build houses, these W.C.s have become wheelchair-friendly, making them slightly bigger and more generous in size. This, of course, gives you more scope to design a more attractive and functional space. Wall-hung fixtures are a great option here, and minimalism continues to be a popular trend for such rooms. However, we’ve also completed projects featuring half-height tiles with a marble slab effect paired with colourful fittings and traditional units, proving that there are many styles to choose from. Small units in this area allow for some storage, even if it’s just for toilet rolls and soaps, helping to keep the space clean and uncluttered. We have also supplied colourful cloakroom basins made of cement in shades like yellow, green, terracotta and more, to add a personal touch to the space. Because this room is often small, people tend to be a bit braver here and allow their personality to shine through in the design. We would love to help you achieve something truly personal and beautiful in this small but important space.
