I have a small bathroom, do I need a small tile?

There are many ways to make a smaller space look bigger, these are a few that work well,

  • Use a large tile in a landscape laying pattern, (too many grout lines add to the feeling of claustrophobia while a horizontal tile can drag your eye around the room).

  • Use a limited variation, light colour, gloss finish tile (a singular finish tile can add to the seamless look, gloss will bounce the light more and light colours make the space look bigger).

  • Add light as it immediately changes the feel of the room.(daylight light fittings are very effective)

  • Add a mirror, preferably with lights,

  • maximize storage to avoid a cluttered feeling,

  • And try to use wall hung appliances to add to the size of the floor you see.

I want to take out my bath and put a shower in instead, can I get a shower tray to fit?

Yes, no problem. There are trays exactly the same size a standard baths available if you want a big tray. You can also use a smaller tray and re-use the gained space for something else. Quite commonly people will replace their baths using a wet room type door but full shower enclosure are available also. Before you call in have a quick look and measure to see if you can fit a tray wider than the bath. It’s always a good idea to have your shower a little wider than the width of the bath for a bit more elbow room if possible.

Can I have a drench head shower?

Yes but it depends on what shower you have already and what work you are prepared to have done. A drench head shower is not traditionally an electric shower so if that’s what you have then replumbing would be required. It also requires a large volume of stored hot water so it also depends on your hot water storage system(cylinder/immersion). There are many different ways and systems to use so if you can call in we can go through your options to achieve a drench head shower. It’s a good idea to take a picture of your shower and cylinder so our staff can be clearer on what system you have.

Tiles or Timber flooring, which should I use?

Laminate timber flooring has greatly improved in quality over the last few years. There is a wide range of colours, styles and finishes available and it’s a perfect offering at a cost effective price. There are like all material some advantages and disadvantages from one to the next, the durability/ longevity of a porcelain tile is one advantage of tile. I would also always caution people with using wood in a wet area, regardless of the water resistant qualities of the product the fitting of the product needs to be very good for it to stand up to water damage. I recommend tiles in a wet area and if it is wood effect you desire you will struggle to know the difference with the porcelain wood tiles. Also if you have underfloor heating then tiles are far better at transferring that heat into your room and will give you that warm underfoot feeling that is best loved about underfloor heating.
