Engineered flooring

With engineered flooring, you are choosing from the pinnacle of wood flooring options available. Not only is it solid, durable, warm, and natural, but its beauty is truly unmatched and timeless. By selecting engineered flooring, you are making a valuable investment in your home with a high-quality product that can typically last a lifetime, providing both elegance and long-lasting performance.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is a highly durable flooring solution that stands up exceptionally well to heavy foot traffic, making it ideal for busy households and commercial spaces alike. It provides a comfortable feel underfoot, is hygienic enough for use in bedrooms, and offers excellent noise reduction, which is particularly beneficial for homes with children, pets, or for rental property owners who need a practical yet stylish option. Over the years, laminate flooring has seen continuous innovation, with a variety of thicknesses and durability levels available, alongside advances in underlay technology. These improvements have helped laminate planks become one of the most popular flooring products worldwide. Recent developments in waterproof technology have further enhanced its durability, making it more resilient against spills and moisture. In addition to its robustness, laminate flooring is also a more affordable choice compared to many other flooring types and is known for being easy to install and maintain. At Riva Tiles & Bathrooms, we stock a range of high-quality laminate wood floors in 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm thick, each with excellent durability ratings. The durability is rated in AC3, AC4, AC5 and AC6. The AC3 rating is rarely used anymore but can be still found in some cheaper product, AC4 is considered a good Quality Domestic product and AC5 is considered a good Quality Commercial product with AC6 being best in Class. There are different warranties based on the manufacturers but usually the higher the AC rating the higher the warranty.

Vinyl flooring (SPC flooring)

SPC flooring is essentially a modern reinvention of an older, established product and has grown tremendously in popularity over the past few years. Its installation method closely resembles that of laminate flooring, and you’ll often find that most professional fitters who install SPC flooring are also experienced in fitting laminate floors. One of the convenient features of SPC flooring is that it comes preinstalled with an underlay, making it a very thin and low-profile option, especially useful in retrofit flooring projects where height restrictions may apply. Although the floor itself requires a level, stable subfloor beneath it, your flooring installer will evaluate and advise you on the condition of your existing floor to ensure the best result.

SPC (Stone Polymer Composite) flooring is known for being a highly durable, rigid, and completely waterproof type of resilient flooring, designed to withstand everyday wear and tear effectively. This makes SPC flooring particularly ideal for busy areas and rooms that are prone to moisture, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms. In these spaces, it’s crucial to maintain both the floor’s appearance and its practical functionality over time.

Key Benefits:

  • Durable: SPC flooring is highly resistant to dents, scratches, and impacts, helping it maintain an attractive look even in high-traffic areas and environments with heavy use.

  • Waterproof: The core composition of SPC flooring is entirely waterproof, which makes it an excellent choice for wet areas where traditional flooring materials might otherwise be damaged by moisture.

  • Easy to Install: SPC boards feature a convenient and user-friendly click-lock system, which allows for quick and hassle-free installation without the need for glue or specialized tools.

  • Eco-Friendly: SPC flooring is mainly manufactured using recycled materials, making it an environmentally responsible flooring choice for your home or commercial space.

Tiles or Timber flooring, which should I use?

Laminate timber flooring has greatly improved in quality over the last few years. There is a wide range of colours, styles and finishes available and it’s a perfect offering at a cost effective price. There are like all material some advantages and disadvantages from one to the next, the durability and longevity of a porcelain tile is one advantage of tile.

Also if you have underfloor heating then tiles are far better at transferring that heat into your room and will give you that warm underfoot feeling that is best loved about underfloor heating.
